Programme Overview
PROFIT is a fair trade initiative that was initiated in India in early 2006 with a view to enable small and marginalised producers to access the Indian market on fairer trade terms.
Where are we now?
Through the last year we have made considerable strides in developing our plans to launch fair trade products in the Indian market. Our aim is to launch the products in the markets with a Indian label/mark in early 2008.
Towards this end, we have had continuous dialogue with various interest groups, private companies, producer organisations, and government / non-government institutions to receive feedback, support and inputs to develop and market the fair trade label in India.
We have institutionalised the process through the formation of a Core Strategy Committee to lead the strategy and road map for this important initiative. We have also established committees to support standards development, marketing & communication strategy, and product & producer development that is crucial to bring products to market.
Look out for the label to promote fair trade which is ‘Shop for Change’ , a simple way of supporting a cause, that not only directly benefits Indian producers, but at the same time enables a trading relationship that is based on respect and strong social standards.
We need your support
- To make a commitment to buy Fair Trade products.
- To spread the word promoting the Indian fair trade label ‘Shop for Change’
- To volunteer and sell fair trade products through your networks.
- To identify organisations and companies willing to support small producer organisations to reach the market.
- To identify outlets that would stock, sell fair trade products.
- To suggest creative ways to reach more consumers
- If you have the skills to market the label, we request you to please volunteer your time to do this.
