Who Are We?

Established in 1979, we uniquely combine a pioneering and successful trading company (Traidcraft plc), offring the widest range of fairly traded products in the UK, with an innovative development charity (Traidcraft Exchange) specialising in making trade work for the poor. We use trade influence and support to promote pro-poor business development. We also engage in policy work and campaigning to influence UK and EU policy-makers and trade issues. The historical roots of the European Union lie in the Second World War. The idea was born because Europeans were determined to prevent such killing and destruction ever happening again. In the early years, the cooperation was between six countries and mainly about trade and the economy. Now the EU embraces 25 countries and 450 million people, and it deals with a wide range of issues of direct importance for our everyday life. IRFT has significant experience of working with pro-poor MSEs in India for over ten years now, one of our key objectives is to promote fair trade in India. By working to increase the productivity and profitability of these MSEs through building capacities, it is possible to increase income, opportunities and enable sustainable livelihood options for marginalized producers we work with. We have recognized the need and opportunity for promoting domestic Fair Trade markets to benefit these MSEs. We have also worked with the ethical business practice, Fair Trade and community welfare.
